Sunday June 26 --
Got up this morning at 5:20 for work duty in the kitchen. Made pancakes for 80 people with Erika and the African Princess Chimene. A group of us took a five minute walk over to the tent city in our neighborhood and had a church service! A few days ago as we were meandering through the tents, talking to our neighbors. So many of them said they couldn't go to church because they don't have the proper clothes, so we brought it to them. Such a special time. Ended the day with long talks and worship time on the roof. I love this place.
OH. AND....
It's pretty special that my crazy awesome youth pastor, Dustin Bates, and his crazy awesome wife, Jamie Bates, are virtual family with the leader of my DTS (discipleship training school). Pastor D is our speaker for this week and flies into PAP tomorrow afternoon. Visitors in Haiti? Who would've thought. And then in just a month, 3 of my favorite people will be here too! My meemshke, my fave teacher/friend/mentor, and blanc fou protector Pastor man will be here. Good times. Good times. Gearing up for another incredible week, and can't wait for more of what God is going to do through this school.
Grrr...posting to this thing is starting to make me a tiny bit crazy.
ReplyDeleteOK...what I just said was I hope I can expect pancakes when I come! You should be an expert by now!!
Worship on the roof?? I think I could get into that. Love the fact that you took church to the tent city. So awesome.
Looking forward to talking with Dustin when he returns. Can't wait to hear all about your life in Haiti.
Post more and more and more...whenever you possibly can! Love hearing from you.
Love you,
Mom

Good Morning, Nini!
ReplyDeleteHoping you have a super fantastic day filled with joys and wonders!

Praying for you friend! Can't wait to hear all that God is doing in your heart while you are there. Just over three weeks til we are on the ground. Hope we get to spend some time with ya!
ReplyDeleteThe passion is jumping off the page in your words...I can feel it! Be blessed, blessed, blessed and blessed some more by your time with Dustin and Jamie. We had a Haiti meeting Sunday at the park...bring back memories? There was a church called "Church in the Park" meeting...looked like they were doing the same thing - taking church to where the people are, just like you did in the tent city. Maybe we can do the same while we are there. Love you - Mrs. Isbell
ReplyDeleteNini,
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how wonderful to read your writings! I'm not surprised Elena has adopted a new culture-appropriate name. It makes me smile. We've been praying for you often and stalking your page hoping for an update. It warms my heart to read these entries. How wonderful the "good things" that God is already working. Can't wait to read more. Until then continued prayers for you and your fellow students.
Much love,
Mrs. Weiss
